Welcome to Pennie Penguin Savers Club

At Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union, we think our kids are pretty special!  That's why we have re-created our kids club just for our members age 12 and under.  It's a fun way to learn good savings habits at an early age.  Your account starts earning dividends immediately so you can watch your money grow with every deposit made to your account.

ACTIVITY TIME:

Carton Wallet

null

Instructions:

  1. Cut open the carton so it lies flat, as shown; put aside the cap for now. Dry the inside with the paper towels. Tape the template on top of the carton so that the top circle lines up with the spout. Mark the outline of the template with a ballpoint pen. Using firm pressure, trace the lower circle and the dotted lines of the template so that they transfer to the carton. (This will score the lines for easier folding.) A ruler will help you mark the straight lines. Cut out the shape from the carton.

  2. Carton Wallet - Step 2 Use scissors to cut out the lower circle as marked. (Tip: To make cutting out the circle easier, first make an X with a craft knife.) Use a ruler and a butter knife to further score the fold lines.

  3. Carton Wallet - Step 3 Following the fold lines you marked, create an accordion fold on each side of the wallet.

  4. Carton Wallet - Step 4 Tightly squeeze the accordion folds. Fold the top flap down, pushing the spout through the hole. Screw on the cap to keep the flap in place.

Watch It Grow

You’ve probably heard how important it is to save your money.

Did you know that the credit union will pay you to save your money?

When you save in your share account, your dollars will earn extra money called dividends, and the extra money will add up along with the dollars you save. For example, a dollar doesn’t seem like much, but if you save a dollar a week, every week, by the time you graduate from high school, you could have thousands of dollars in your share account. Plus, thanks to the dividends, you’ll also receive hundreds of extra dollars.

So, start today by giving your dollars a job and let them earn dividends for you.

Save a little now each week and watch the dollars grow in your share account.

The staff at Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union would like you to stop into the credit union and see for yourself what makes credit unions better than other financial institutions. Here's some questions and answers concerning credit unions...

What makes a credit union different?

Credit Unions are owned by it's members. All money or profits that the credit union makes are returned to the members in the form of dividends. Banks on the other hand have stockholders who invest money in their bank in hopes of making a profit. All money made at the bank are returned to the investors.

How does a credit union work?

When you give money to the credit union or make a deposit, the credit union can loan that money to other members. The credit union charges that person "interest" on that money. Interest is a fee that is paid by the borrower for use of the money. The credit union uses the interest to pay bills and to pay dividends to the members for the use of their money.

Who can be a member of Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union?

As long as you live, work, go to school or worship in Elk, Cameron, McKean or Warren Counties you can belong to the credit union!
